Spark Your Productivity

Do you feel not quite prepared to be in the grind? If you went through my last articles on getting into the grind and still don’t feel ready, this and the next few articles are for you!

For anything, we start as beginners. Productivity is no different. I call this starting position as “sparking your productivity.” Think of it as you are lighting a match. With that little flame, you are able to create major light. We cannot create a huge bonfire without that small flame.

You cannot soar in productivity without little steps first. If you are excited to get started right away, feel free to schedule a free 30 minute call with me!

The Start of Something New

The first step in sparking your productivity is to write down what you are doing now. If you don’t have anything now, that is OK! That is still a first step.

In order to change what we are doing now, we have to acknowledge exactly what we are doing.

Next, write down what your ideal state would be as well as desired outcomes.

But keep in mind, productivity goes in a cycle. There are 4 stages in the cycle:

  • Forming

  • Storming

  • Norming

  • Performing

If you are reading this, you are most likely in Forming: “Yes, I am ready to go!”

However, it is also possible that you are currently in Norming: “I can see where this is going and I am going to keep going!”

But, if you feel you might be in Storming: “This was supposed to be easier. What am I doing wrong?” The answer is – you aren’t doing something wrong! It is all part of the cycle.

Performing, “I am working smarter, not harder,” is where we are going to help you get to!

Setting Goals and Actionable Steps

Once you have your current situation and ideal situation written down, it is time to learn or review (depending on your productivity level) the Productivity Basics!

I am a big advocate of writing things down. This can be digitally or by hand. I want you to be able to take it out of your head and put it in front of you, for you to see it.

This also goes with your “things to do.” Create a list and then prioritize.

Then, focus on ONE task at a time to make sure you are completing it by the deadline.

This smaller cycle then repeats.

These cycles – the productivity cycle and the productivity basics cycle – might seem tedious or annoying, but once you have done it a few times, it will become muscle memory. Like riding a bike! And then, you will see your productivity strengthen and grow.
